KiD CuDi - Solo Dolo Pt. 2 (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

love how they used the same msb sample doe

the rest of the song doe? i prefer the former, just because of the vibe.

like hearing kendrick work different flows and hooks on different kinds of beats. the cat is creative.

I fuck with the boiler room.  it’s a dope concept and i feel like venues with a dj focus are excellent but

in every recording you see cats watching the dj rather than enjoying the music

it’s strange to watch because you have the dj staring at his macbook and 100 other people staring at the same thing. it’s hilarious.

cats need to get off their phones, stop worrying if they can name drop the producers, and enjoy the damn set. they are excellent sets but by looking at the crowd you couldn’t tell

you got kids around the booth acting as if they want the dj to know that they are paying attention and the only cats hyped are deep in the back. they are the ones the DJ actually wants around so he/she can make that crucial exchange of vibes with the participating crowd

there’s a reason why they put DJs above the crowd on platforms

Moods | ‘Love is Real’

As heard on the Commonn x The Rest video for Above The Waist’, we treated ourselves to some music by Moods who has recently dropped his 6-track EP entitled ‘Seasons’. To give you a taster of what the Dutch Hip Hop producer has in store on this project, give the first track of the EP titled ‘Love is Real’ a listen. Moods went on to say on his Bandcamp,

“These 6 tracks were made through the 4 seasons. Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. And yes some tracks I made a couple of years back. But I still think they’re doing the job for this EP. All I can say is enjoy the ride.”

‘Seasons’ is available to get your mittens on over at Bandcamp.

Kendrick Lamar Chosen as The Source’s “Rookie of the Year”

This post needs little words. 2012 was a monumental year for Kendrick Lamar, and even though he is the farthest from a “rookie” in the eyes of many, ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City’ was his first release under a major label so I can see why The Source would deem him “Rookie of the Year” for 2012.

Regardless of the title, having Kendrick Lamar cover The Source like this is extremely beneficial and very well deserved. Shoutout to Kendrick, Top Dawg Entertainment, and all of his fans and supporters out there.

Go out and grab this copy of The Source when it hits shelves on December 4th.

Also, make sure to peep an UnCovered video with Kendrick Lamar down below, in which he details his favorite artists and albums, when he realized he wanted to be a musician, his motivation in the booth, and much, much more.

…and 2 Chainz is “Man of the Year”. How? And why is he still here?

Mos Def’s “The Ecstatic” has to be in my top ten albums. Top five.

Classic. Always underrated cause it can’t get rated enough.

Interview with Speech was excellent.

Didn’t I tell ‘yall I’m a journalist part-time?

Lol

Like this post enough and I might put up the audio.

I always liked how Justin Timberlake had dope bridges.

I mean I always liked how the Neptunes wrote dope bridges.

Watching the “Like I Love You” video.

Notice how everyone is all hippitey-hopped out - Knicks jerseys, white dudes with braids, hip hop fedoras, fingerless gloves, leather, backup dancers making dated b boy poses

And you see Clipse step out, decked out in Polo and jeans. Long sleeve sweater.

Pharell rocking skate shoes and high socks. Nerd gear.

Just things you see.

I can only imagine the look on Pusha and Malice’s face when walking on set

Super Cat feat. The Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy, and 3rd Eye

Dolly My Baby (Bad Boy Extended Mix) aka P Diddy sounding like a fool Vol. 278

Wish there was more of this.

I dig the fact that Azaelia Banks still sounds British. Like, she didn’t swap her sound once American media picked her up. Her shit is still dope. And when I mean “British”, I’m talking about her music- its still dance music. I don’t know what it is exactly, but I’ve heard a few UK hip hop acts rap over straight dance beats- dance and club music seems to permeate the entire music scene over there. And that is something that does not happen over here. You won’t hear an MC spit over a D&B cut, or hear someone rap over a legitimate house track. Not even ‘Ye does that; so that’s one thing I feel artists are uncomfortable to do over here. ‘Cross the pond, it doesn’t seem like that’s a problem at all. So big ups to Banks for sticking to what she does, and shying away from the (rapidly shrinking creatively) world of popular “urban music”. Here in the states artists have to make that decision when it comes to that genre split, and I feel she’s made the right one, so she can go on making music she wants. And hopefully, when the A&Rs and the journalists in the “urban music” world finally see that Banks has gotten “urban” America dancing, we might get to see some strange changes in popular hip hop.
