Day One, Year Two. Wins and Losses.

Morning.

  • First day of cast recordings for musical: my first time in studio, and with my own new drums. W
  • Scheduled recordings on both audition dates for school jazz ensembles: the most important dates of the year for me, musically. L
  • Managed to reschedule auditions in the overflow for the following day. W
  • Overflow times clash with a big paid gig I have that very night. L
  • And as it turns out, I will not be able to fit either jazz ensemble in my schedule, meaning I’m not playing at school this semester. L
  • But I can play in combos. And I will be dearly missed: I am in demand by the higher ups. W

Morning summary: Successfully averted conflict with auditions and studio recording. However, auditions will be in vain, because I cannot play in any ensembles anyway. Massive blow to my growth as a musician, but gives me more time, and more time to play outside of school- and get paid.
3-3: tie.

Midday

  • First day at work in the architecture library. Very lax and kind people. Got hand of the decimal system quickly, and got to set my own perfect schedule. Will be working 12+ hours a week above minimum wage. W
  • Weekends. L, but who really gives a damn.
  • Made it to all my classes. Blacks in the American Politics sounds great, and will get some great literature to back up my interest. W
  • Statics. L
  • Statics prof was sick, got free period, and didn’t have to get scared about my first engineering/applied math+physics class. W
  • History and Theory of Architecture is the class I need. W
  • Teacher is a douche. L
  • Did not have any of my books, and I have not ordered them yet. I also don’t have my supplies for studio tomorrow. L x2
  • Completed news stories due for paper on time. W

Midday summary: Classes look great so far, nothing to worry about (yet), and work sounds perfect. Will have to work weekends, but I can do homework there, and I get paid above minimum wage on my own damn time in a nice library. However, I am still very unprepared to start my classes, and I will be for the next week or so. Paper is looking great though.
5-5: tie.

Evening:

  • Dinner with pals. W
  • Almost time for cast recording! W
  • Time for cast recording. Time to lug down drums four flights of stairs, five times. L
  • Make it to the studio, only to meet with inexperienced sound engineers that cannot help me tune/muffle my drums: end up with a shitty sound. L
  • Start late. L
  • Start recording! W
  • Start recording. L
  • Get a call from the paper. My hip hop column is due right now. Not tomorrow as I thought. have to tell editor I have nothing, even though I had notice for pretty much an entire summer. L x4
  • Takes me an hour to recover. L
  • Music turns out well, I have fun.  W
  • Studio time over, now have to schlep. Again. L
  • My awesome roomate, asleep, hears me come in, and comes out to help me out. W x2
Evening summary: Great spending time with friends, and had a great experience recording, but my sound wasn’t perfect, so I was never happy. I had to schlep, and I hate schlepping four flights. I thought I was on schedule for the paper, but being me, I pulled a classic Kekeli and forgot the most important thing: my column. Loss of trust points from the editors. But I have a great friend and roomate to help me out.
6-10: Loss.

14-18: Loss, but close enough to be indifferent. But still a down. On to tomorrow. Hot gig tomorrow, a lot of hustling, rushing, and making the possible out of the impossible. Things you got to do cause you got to do them. Send your good vibes. Please. They are needed.
